3 Cases of Acute D.D.S. Intoxication

Abstract
Dapsone (4-4`-diaminodiphenylsulfone, DDS, diaphenylsulfone) is very effective for the treatment of leprosy and somewhat useful for the treatment of dermatitis herpetiformis in the dermatologic fields,and also was known preventive remedies of chloroquine resistant falciparum malaria in Vietman War.
Chronic D.D.S. intoxication have been reported in many countries, but cases of acute intoxication were rare in literatures. There were few reports regarding acute D.D.S. intoxication in Korea. Authors present 3 cases of acute D.D.S. intoxication due to intensional ingestion for suicide attempts and inappropriate treatment of tinea pedis.
The cases demonstrated hemolytic anemia, manifestations of toxic hepatitis, peripheral motor neuropathy, exfoliative dermatitis, and methemoglobinemia.
